A 25-year-old woman was killed and five other people injured Sunday morning when a car going the wrong way collided head-on into an SUV in the Oakland hills, police said.
The name of the woman who was killed, an Oakland resident, has not yet been released.
The collision happened about 4:59 a.m. Sunday in the 4500 block of Joaquin Miller Road.
Police said an Infinity sedan was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Honda SUV that was heading northbound.
Each vehicle had three occupants. The woman killed was the rear passenger in the Honda, which was being driven by a 43-year-old man.
A 40-year-old man was also a passenger in the Honda. Police have not said what their relationship is. The 25-year-old woman died at the scene.
The Infinity was driven by an 18-year-old man. Two other teenagers, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were passengers in the vehicle.
The five people injured were taken to area hospitals where they were all reported to be in stable condition. Police are trying to determine why the Infinity was driving on the wrong side of the road, and if drugs or alcohol were factors.
Joaquin Miller Road remained closed until about noon while police investigated.
