A woman killed in what police said appeared to be a “tragic case of domestic violence” earlier this month in Pinole has been identified.

Officers found Brittany Ligdis, 30, of Pinole, dead with at least one gunshot wound inside a home in the 500 block of Summit Drive on Feb. 16. Jeffrey Kendall, 36, remains in custody at the Contra Costa County jail in lieu of $1.2 million bail, charged with murder, willful child cruelty, and possession of an assault weapon by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, according to authorities.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office identified Ligdis on Tuesday.

Pinole Police Cmdr. Matt Avery said that Kendall and Ligdis had been in a relationship. Ligdis lived at the home and that Kendall was “associated with the house.”

Authorities arrested Kendall during a traffic stop in the Santa Cruz area following an all-day manhunt.
