I’m all about multi-tasking. Why not get a classic car that can also earn its keep around the house or workshop? At a certain point, just about everyone can relate to the need for having to haul a piece of furniture, a few bags of mulch, or an ATV around town. This Chevy truck proves that you can you can put in work and still look classy at the same time. The truck is being sold by a dealer in Gladstone, Oregon, and the auction ends on Monday.
Chevrolet’s popular full-sized C/K-Series of pickup trucks first launched in 1960 and remained on the market until 2002 when it was replaced by the Silverado lineup. By the late 1960s, the C/K was in its second generation and took on the nickname “Action Line.” It seems the majority of these trucks were optioned in two-wheel-drive configurations, so finding a clean four-wheel-drive is getting to be exceedingly rare. The C/K nomenclature, by the way, is derived from that distinction (C for the two-wheel-drive trucks, and K for the four-wheel-drive variants).
Some of Chevrolet’s marketing materials called this truck an “Action Hero,” and for good reason. The engineering behind it was to enhance the capability of light-duty and medium duty trucks – and the result was met with great success.
Today’s nicely-restored featured truck borrows a few elements from the muscle car era, including Rally wheels, a dual exhaust system, and houndstooth-upholstered bucket seats. The selling dealer has included nearly 100 detailed photos, including the underside which looks equally as clean as the body itself. The body has nice lines and the brightwork has plenty of luster. The grippy Maxxis Razr MT tires look aggressive enough to tackle challenging terrain.
Although the front fenders are badged with 396 emblems, power under the hood originates with a 402cid big-block V8 mated to a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission. Further, the engine bay is upgraded with a set of chrome valve covers, a four-barrel carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner housing.
All-in-all, for 55 years old, this blue pickup is looking pretty fresh, and the mechanical components are well-sorted. It seems there isn’t much left to do with it besides drive and enjoy. It would look as eye-catching at the hardware store as it would in a local parade. Win-win, I say.
