‘Civil War Letters’

Tonya McQuade, an English teacher at Los Gatos High School, gives historical context to a series of previously unpublished Civil War letters in her new book, titled “A State Divided: Civil War Letters of James C. Hale and Benjamin Petree of Andrew County, Missouri.” The book is available on Amazon.

“Tonya has always taken the time to bring real-life opportunities into her classroom. This level of personalization to US history will be an added bonus for students as she continues to share her research and knowledge,” Superintendent Bill Sanderson said in a release.

Plant-based cooking

Attend a free, plant-based cooking class on Monday, Feb. 12 from 5-6 p.m., and learn how to cook up a garlic and greens soup, crispy chickpeas and a no-bake apple crumble.

The virtual class is hosted by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, an author and advocate for veganism, and is presented through a partnership between the Los Gatos Library and Plant-Based Advocates. Register at https://losgatosca.libcal.com/event/11631874.

Ride and Taste Los Gatos

For older adults looking to learn more about public transit in Los Gatos, the town’s new “Ride and Taste LG” program will provide up to 10 participants with a free orientation and day pass to use the Santa Clara Valley’s transit system, as well as a free lunch. The program is held twice a month.

The next Ride and Taste LG event is taking place on Thursday,. Feb. 15, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants must be members of the Los Gatos Adult Recreation Center’s 55 plus program. To register, call 408-354-1514.
