OAKLAND — Two men were wounded — both by suspects in vehicles — in shootings that happened just over two hours apart Tuesday in different areas of East Oakland, authorities said.
Both men were struck in the leg and were later reported to be in stable condition, authorities said. Investigators do not believe at this time that the shootings are related.
One of the shootings happened about 8:37 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 98th Avenue and Empire Road.
A 24-year-old man told police he was driving eastbound on Empire Road and was stopped at the intersection next to another vehicle. He told police a male occupant of the other vehicle — a person he said he did not know — shot him before driving away.
The victim got his own transportation to a hospital.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests were announced and a detailed description of the shooter was not released.
The other shooting happened about 6:13 p.m. in the 5300 block of East 8th Street.
A 48-year-old man told police he was sitting in his vehicle when another vehicle drove by and a male inside shot at him.
The suspect kept driving in the vehicle, authorities said. It was not immediately clear how the victim got to a hospital.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
