Sew for Love is a group of sewers from the South Bay community–ranging in skill from beginner to expert–who sew a variety of projects that are then donated to people in the community who need them. That can include everything from dignity bags for cancer patients to stress balls for police and firefighters to pocket animals for anyone in need of some love and security.

The organization, begun in 2000, is overseen by Michelle Zeiler, and everything is made from fabric donations; excess material is used to create Cubies, giant blocks of fabric that can be used as footrests, and are also donated.

Local sewing and craft stores donate their space for Sew for Love to work, and this past Tuesday a group of about 10 met at Ray’s Sewing Machine Center. Sew for Love will be meeting at St. Barts Church in San Mateo on January 15th to sew pocket love animals and stress balls for community members.

Volunteers with basic knowledge of sewing will need to bring their sewing machines and scissors. Non-sewing volunteers should also bring sharp scissors, and will trace, cut, and stuff their creations.

Breakfast will begin at 8 a.m.; the project will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude by noon.

For more information, contact Michelle Zeiler at (408) 406-3102, or love2sew4ever@aol.com

Sew for Love’s next meeting will be at St. Barts Church, 600 Columbia Dr., San Mateo.
