A driver suspected in fatally hitting a woman and not stopping while driving through Discovery Bay on Highway 4 was arrested Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.
Investigators arrested the 32-year-old Antioch man on suspicion of felony hit-and-run about 3:05 p.m., according to a statement from spokesperson Officer Adam Lane. The CHP did not release details about how they tracked down the man or where they arrested him.
The fatal collision happened Nov. 17 about 11:40 p.m. According to the CHP, 87-year-old pedestrian Beverly Sweeney, of Discovery Bay, was near Newport Drive when she was hit. The CHP has not said why they believe Sweeney was walking near a highway so late.
The suspect was taken to the Martinez Detention Facility, where he was held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
