OAKLAND — Alameda County prosecutors have charged an Oakland man with murdering a woman who had previously taken a restraining order against him due to a prior domestic violence incident, court records show.
Brandon Bell, 37, was charged Wednesday with murdering Shamieka Mabery in the Feb. 24 shooting. Police say Bell was quickly identified as a suspect, thanks to surveillance footage that captured the shooting, but authorities have yet to track him down.
Jail records around the Bay Area indicate Bell remains out of custody. He has had an active murder arrest warrant since March, but the charges weren’t filed until Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Mabery was shot and killed outside Mike’s Bong Shop on International Boulevard. Surveillance footage showed Bell walk up to her car and block its way, and begin arguing with her. During the argument he pulled out a gun and fired repeatedly at close range, authorities said.
Early in the investigation, police discovered Mabery had obtained a restraining order against Bell over an act of domestic violence that occurred in San Francisco County, authorities said. He was arrested in June 2022 on suspicion of domestic violence and making criminal threats, records show.
In addition to the murder charge, Bell faces charges of unlawful firearm activity and enhancements for allegedly targeting a vulnerable victim and use of a firearm, according to court records.
Bell is also a suspect in a November 2022 domestic violence incident involving another woman, according to police.
