New library cards

The Sunnyvale Public Library unveiled five new library cards designed by children and teens, including two from Iizuka, Sunnyvale’s Sister City in Japan. The winning designs were chosen from over 200 entries in three different age categories: grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-12.

New library cards will be available while supplies last. To get a new card or replace an old one, visit the library’s customer service desk at 665 W. Olive Ave. For more information, call 408-730-7300.

Rebuilding Day

Volunteers from BNI Sunnyvale took part in National Rebuilding Day Saturday, April 29. Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley coordinated more than 450 volunteers to perform home maintenance and repairs at 20 project sites across Santa Clara County.

Bay Area Older is hosting an expert-led walking tour of the Silicon Valley water purification center on May 12 to see firsthand via interactive exhibits how waste water can cost-effectively be transformed into drinking water Santa Clara County residents. For those who want to explore nature from the comfort of home, Dr. Merav Vonshak will lead a virtual seminar on ant ecology and social behavior on May 18, when she’ll explain the insects’ complex social interactions and how they developed agriculture and slavery millions of years before humans.
