Chrysler Performance West, the Southern California Chrysler Car Club, put on its 35th annual Spring Fling show at Woodley Park in Van Nuys. As a rule, over 700 cars, 300 swappers, 50 manufacturers and 9000 spectators attend the two-day event, and there was no reason to doubt this would be another spectacular showing of cars and enthusiasts.

A big tradition for the event is the Malibu cruise, where owners start at Van Nuys and drive to the Famous Rock Store on Mulholland Drive, then cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu for lunch before returning to the San Fernando Valley.

On Saturday, the show has a popular “show & shine” structure with no judging. This year, the club played host to a special Aero Car display for 1969 Dodge Charger 500 and Charger Daytona, and 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird. On Sunday, things get a bit more serious thanks to class judging.

Of course, there’s also a swap meet that brings in the early birds because you know what they say about the worm! Seven a.m. is what it takes to find that rare part that is missing from your restoration, though the swap meet can continue through 4 p.m. before the show closes.

The family that plays together stays together!

Spring Fling brings Mopar fans from hundreds of miles away to revel in the beautiful spring weather while sitting in the shadows of an Exner-era fin or Superbird wing. Take a gander at some of the fine machinery in attendance thanks to the enthusiastic photography of Brad Miles.
