Holosun continues to add to its list of direct compatibility of different pistol models with its SCS series solar optics. Last year we reported the SCS-MP2 for the S&W M&P M2.0 and the SCS-MOS for Glock. Now the company has added direct mounting for the Walther PDP and PDP-F with the SCS-PDP and H&K VP9 (optic ready) with the SCS-VP9. Utilizing the company’s Solar Failsafe technology, the two new models are ready for the light of day.
The Holosun SCS Series Adds H&K VP9 and Walther PDP
Featuring a 7075 T6 Aluminum housing, the SCS series features an IP68 waterproof rating. This is an upgrade from previous SCS models, which were IP67. The updated rating allows for the optic to be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes and still operate. As a result, the SCS series can withstand the rigors of the most inclement conditions and still operate.
Designed to mount directly to the corresponding platform (Walther PDP or H&K VP9) each SCS model is designed to match the pistol’s form and function. For the SCS-PDP, this even includes the addition of matching cocking serrations on the side of the housing.
Featuring a coated anti-reflective 0.58×0.77 window, the SCS models utilize Holosun’s MRS (Multi-Reticle System) with Super Green (540nm) LED technology. This allows shooters to select between a 2 MOA dot only, 32 MOA circle only, or 32 MOA circle with 2 MOA dot, depending on operational needs. Correspondingly, a low-profile deck allows you to co-witness with your pistol’s iron sights when installed.
With a 30+/- MOA travel adjustment, users can adjust for windage and elevation with 1 MOA click adjustment. The adjustment points for windage and elevation are located on the top and side of the optic housing. Additionally, the SCS is parallax-free and has unlimited eye relief for rapid target acquisition.
Battery Life of the SCS Series
Featuring a self-regulating reticle brightness, the optic adjusts the brightness setting based on the intensity of ambient light. This function can be overridden in 30-minute increments, if you prefer/need a brighter reticle. However, leaving this feature on helps preserve battery life by reducing the reticle’s intensity in lower light conditions.
Speaking of battery life, the SCS uses solar technology to charge the internal rechargeable battery. Correspondingly, when fully charged, the optic boasts a 20,000-hour power reserve for extended operation time between charges. Likewise, when exposed to the correct lighting conditions, the optic can operate indefinitely. Similarly, a battery life indicator ensures that you always know when it is time to charge the unit.
Editor’s Note:
Much like humans, the SCS series needs good old Vitamin D to continue to operate properly. However, sitting in a safe or under concealment clothing regularly isn’t going to provide it with the rays it needs. So, make sure to check the low power indicator often and charge it regularly or it may not function when you need it most.
Fortunately, one thing outdoor ranges have at no additional charge is sunlight. So, hitting the range often takes care of two things at once. You get to continue to hone your skills while charging the battery on your optic. As a result, both you and your optic will be ready for the unexpected.
