SAN JOSE — A large police contingent including the city’s bomb squad descended on a South San Jose home on Wednesday afternoon as part of an investigation into someone possessing explosives and illegal drugs, authorities said.

The home is located on Potomac Court, about a block north of the Gunderson High School campus across Chynoweth Avenue. The police presence, which was joined by a hazmat team, arrived in the area around the time school was letting out.

San Jose police said bomb techs were part of a warrant search at the site as a precaution, but have not found any cause to issue evacuation or shelter-in-place orders for the surrounding area.

Sgt. Christian Camarillo said if actively explosive materials are discovered, evacuations could be ordered for neighboring homes and businesses.

“Right now it’s a fluid situation,” he said.

One person has been arrested in connection with the case, Camarillo said, but he declined to release additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.
