Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has suggested that the federal agencies should be spread throughout the nation rather than being concentrated in the nation’s capital.
“Too much power has accumulated in DC and the result is a detached administrative state that rules over us and imposes its will on us,” DeSantis said, according to the New York Post. “While there are a host of things that need to be done to re-constitutionalize government, parceling out federal agencies to other parts of the country could help reduce the negative effects of this accumulation of power.”
GOP Sen. Rick Scott of Florida, who served as the state’s governor prior to DeSantis, noted that he agrees. “Ron is right. I proposed the same in my Rescue America plan. The Republican establishment in Washington wants to protect the status quo, but we need to be for big, bold ideas if we want to save our country,” Scott tweeted.
DeSantis, who won reelection during the Sunshine State’s 2022 gubernatorial contest, is widely viewed as someone who could potentially mount a presidential bid, though he has not announced any plans to pursue the presidency.
Former President Donald Trump and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley have both already announced presidential bids. Other Republicans might jump into the race in the coming months.
When asked during an interview on “Fox & Friends” about his timeline for deciding whether to run for president, DeSantis noted that he has a new book coming out and that the state’s legislative session is approaching. “As we get beyond that,” DeSantis said, “we can decide from there.”
DeSantis’ book, “The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival” is scheduled for release on February 28.
“Virtually every major institution in our country is attempting to impose a ‘progressive’ agenda on society,” DeSantis said, according to the Post. “Florida strives to protect the ability of its citizens to live their lives free from this agenda being shoved down their throats.”
Trump has been attacking DeSantis, referring to him as “DeSanctimonious” and calling him a “RINO,” which is an acronym that stands for “Republican in name only.”
