ANTIOCH – A 54-year-old man was arrested in connection with a stabbing Friday morning in Antioch, police said.

The stabbing was reported just after 9 a.m. near Country Hills Drive and Chism Way. Officers arrived to find the victim and another person holding down the suspect, identified as Johnnie Ray Bryce, the Antioch Police Department said in a statement.

Bryce was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, police said.

The victim, meanwhile, was taken to an area hospital with a “significant stab wound to the stomach,” police said. He was listed in stable condition Friday night.

Prior to the stabbing, residents in the area saw Bryce casing vehicles on the street and in private driveways, police said, citing witness statements and surveillance footage.

When confronted by residents, Bryce brandished a knife and stabbed one of them in the stomach, police said. The residents then chased Bryce down and held him until officers arrived.

Officers recovered a black foldable pocketknife at the scene, police said, adding that Bryce was also found with suspected methamphetamine, burglary tools and an unspent 9mm round.
