Overview

Angry sports-car looks and searing performance were two facets of the old Mercedes-AMG GT coupe’s greatness, a car that left the market with a shout from its vicious twin-turbo V-8 at the end of the 2021 model year. We expect that spirit to carry over when an all-new GT coupe model arrives for 2025. The new coupe is said to be based on the current SL roadster, a car that has proved unexpectedly hot as well as thoroughly luxurious. The coupe’s proportions will likely mimic those of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL-class, and we expect the interior to be similar as well. We aren’t sure, however, if the coupe will retain the open-top SL’s thunderous twin-turbo V-8 powertrain; it could potentially offer a hybrid setup similar to that of the four-door AMG GT63 S Performance or it could scrap the V-8 altogether and move to a four-cylinder hybrid setup like that of the Mercedes-AMG C63. Regardless of its propulsion system, we expect that AMG will deliver a sports coupe rife with beauty, luxury, and get-out-of-my-way performance.

What’s New for 2025?

The Mercedes-AMG GT sports coupe is expected to be an entirely new model for the 2025 model year, and will likely launch sometime during the second half of the 2024 calendar year.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT is the new hard-roof version of the slinky SL roadster. The trim level structure has yet to be confirmed, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see AMG offer a a rowdier, more capable, and more expensive variant alongside the standard GT.
