The VP9 has enjoyed popularity among the concealed carry crowd over the years. Improving on the P30 platform, H&K stepped up its game with improvements that took it to the next level. And now, Davidson’s steps in to take the VP9 to yet another stage of evolution with its exclusive version of the popular platform.
Davidson’s Exclusive H&K VP9
Starting with the “B”—or “Push-Button”—model, Davidson’s swaps out the everyday black polymer frame for gray. The new gray frame contrasts nicely with the H&K black hostile environment-finished machined steel slide. However, other than aesthetics, the frame remains mostly unchanged and maintains the same great ergonomics as the original. Davidson’s also supplies three interchangeable backstraps for a perfect fit.
Although featuring the same forward and rear cocking serrations, the slide is where most of the change takes place. For example, the charging supports are now slightly larger, with some jimping to aid in grip. As a result, manipulating the slide will be a little easier for those with reduced hand strength.
Additionally, riding atop the slide is a new sight configuration, including a high-visibility front sight and “clean” black serrated rear. Correspondingly, Davidson’s opted to include the VP9 slide with an optic cut for those that prefer optics.
Utilizing P30 magazines, Davidson’s exclusive VP9 will come with two 17-round magazines in place of the standard 15-round mags. However, 15- and 10-round magazines are available for those that require them.
Editor’s Note:
I spoke with H&K regarding the optic cut slide and was notified that it is a proprietary H&K cut, and all optics will require a mounting plate. However, I was told that Holosun is working on an optic that will direct mount to the VP9. According to the rep, it should be out within a few months. Although, it is worth noting that things happen with manufacturing, and it could take longer.
