Discovering volunteerism

Corporate volunteers from Xactly in Los Gatos spent the day Nov. 9 at three different Discovery Shop locations—including the one at 39 E. Main St.—performing a variety of tasks to support the stores’ daily operations such as pricing, sorting and steaming clothing items and setting up for holiday and jewelry events.

Discovery Shops are resale stores that support the American Cancer Society’s programs and research. The stores are primarily staffed by volunteers. Contact the Los Gatos store at 408-354-5917.

Warming centers open

As cold weather looms, local leaders have a plan to keep residents safe. The Santa Clara County Office of Emergency Management offers warming centers—often public buildings like libraries and community centers—for residents without reliable access to shelter and warmth during extreme weather. During these times, Valley Transportation Authority offers free bus rides to approved warming centers. For a full list of these centers, visit http://PrepareSCC.org/ColdWeather or call 408-385-2400.

Parking proposals wanted

The Town of Los Gatos is soliciting proposals from technology providers interested in running the town’s downtown visitor parking payment system. To submit a proposal, visit www.LosGatosCA.gov/RFP by December 1.

Thanksgiving art class

Despite what your neighbors’ yard decorations indicate, it’s not Christmas yet. Residents can celebrate the Thanksgiving season Nov. 19, 1-3 p.m., with a themed watercolor class. The class, offered at the Los Gatos Youth Recreation Center at 123 E. Main St., will be taught by artist Elvira Rascov. Participants will hand-paint three custom cards. For a list of materials needed, visit https://tinyurl.com/ThanksgivingWaterColor. Registration costs $40.
