Every once in a while, videos appear online of big cats or bears attacking hikers. The consensus is always the same: it was probably protecting its babies. Well, animals are not the only ones with those instincts. And one Milwaukee woman demonstrated that when an intruder enters her home with her children inside and she fatally shoots him.

Milwaukee Woman Shoots Intruder Defending Her Children

Monday, August 15th, a Milwaukee woman who asked not to be identified was enjoying her morning shower before work. Suddenly, she heard her two children, 12 and 14, screaming from the living room. As it turns out, an intruder broke into her home.

According to WTMJ-TV Milwaukee, “Without hesitation, she raced to her bedroom, grabbed her gun, and ran into the hallway to face down the intruder, she said.”

The report states that her two pit bulls were already attacking the intruder. However, according to the woman, he wouldn’t stop coming. So, firing multiple times, she shot and killed the man. Reports indicate that the suspect was in his late 30s and was acting erratically.

Community activist Bushraa Rahman told MEAWW, “In today’s day and age, with mental health and everything else that’s taking place in the world, I mean, you better protect yourself. To be honest, you have to.”

Newsweek adds legitimacy to her actions by stating, “This comes as the U.S. Department of Justice in July said there are 2.5 million burglaries annually in the United States, and 66 percent of these are home invasions.”

Rahman, who helped clean up the scene, said, “She was scared because her children were there with her. So, she did what any mother would do. She defended her children.”

The Aftermath

Shortly after the shooting, police arrested the woman, and authorities removed the body with the help of Rahman. However, after questioning, police released the mother several hours later. The incident was then referred to the office of the District Attorney, and police won’t be releasing any more information.

Unfortunately, the damage has already been done to this family. The mother tells outlets that her children are traumatized, and the family plans to move out once they find a new home. Especially considering this is not the first situation like this that the family has faced.

WTMJ-TV writes, “The mother bought the gun ten years ago, she said, after discovering a man sleeping under her son’s bed. She said she hoped she’d never need to use it.”

Thankfully this mother didn’t let her gun ownership become complacent after ten years without incident. This story might have been completely different if she had. However, it is instead another example of how guns save lives.
