Cultural preserve open
A newly renovated treasure in the Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve is open to the public as of Oct. 15. The Alma Cultural Landscape is an 8-acre site containing numerous historic landmarks, some of which were formerly part of Alma College, the first Jesuit school of theology in California.
The site was recently rehabilitated by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. This process included stabilizing and sealing old structures, clearing out non-historic structures that were no longer safe and planting native plants. All of this was paid for using voter-approved Measure AA bond funds, as well as a county grant.
