Exactly two months after he was struck by a car not far from downtown San Jose, a pedestrian died from his injuries, according to the San Jose Police Department.

A driver of a 2020 Dodge truck collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle while traveling westbound in the 400 block of Auzerais Avenue about 4:19 p.m. July 30, authorities said at the time. The crash pushed the parked vehicle into the pedestrian and a tree, according to police.

The victim was taken to a hospital with significant injuries before he was transported to a recovery center, authorities said. He died there on Sept. 30; authorities did not release his name Thursday.

The driver, an adult male, fled the scene and was still at large as of this week, police said. Authorities did not release a detailed description of either the driver or the vehicle.

The death marks the city’s 53rd traffic fatality in 2022, and the 27th involving a pedestrian. There have been 51 deadly collisions in total.

Those with information regarding the incident are asked to contact Detective Dellicarpini of the San José Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit at 4103@sanjoseca.gov or 408-277-4654.
