FREMONT — Authorities were working to find a suspect in the sexual assault Tuesday of a woman found at a busy intersection.

Police said dispatchers took multiple calls shortly before 9 a.m. to report a woman at Paseo Padre Parkway and Mowry Avenue in need of help.

When officers and Fremont Fire Department firefighters responded, they spoke with a woman who told them she had been assaulted. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of what police believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Soon after, a police special-response team obtained and served a search warrant at an unspecified home, detaining a person before determining they were a witness.

Police said detectives were working to locate a suspect identified only as an adult, and that the department would release more information as it became available.
