“Resident Evil” has been one of the biggest video game franchises over the past 25 years and it’s only growing stronger. It all began in 1996 when the original “Resident Evil” survival horror video game was developed and released by Capcom. In the original game, protagonists Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine are members of an elite task force who must escape a zombie infested mansion. “Resident Evil” earned world-wide success and went on to becoming PlayStation’s best-selling game of all time.

In the years to come, the game was introduced to other gaming systems and then in 1998 “Resident Evil 2” was released. And over the next decade, we’d continue to see new releases in this gaming franchise every few years, with the most recent release being 2021’s “Resident Evil Village.” “Resident Evil Village” is the sequel to 2017’s “Resident Evil 7 Biohazard” and the 10th original game released by the franchise. “Resident Evil” has also remade a number of their original games over the years and a remake of “Resident Evil 4” (which originally debuted in 2005) is expected to come out in March of 2023.

In addition to a host of popular games, “Resident Evil” has also inspired a number of adaptations. Many are familiar with the live-action film series of the same name, which is loosely inspired by the games and stars Milla Jovovich as the films’ protagonist Alice. There have been six films in this series, as well as a 2021 reboot entitled “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.” There’s also currently a “Resident Evil” television series that’s slated to hit Netflix on July 14th, 2022.
