OAKLAND – Crews on Monday night battled a two-alarm fire in Oakland’s Melrose neighborhood.
The fire was reported around 9:15 p.m. inside a metal building on the 1200 block of 48th Avenue, said Battalion Chief Chris Landry of the Oakland Fire Department.
Landry said crews had a difficult time gaining access to the structure.
“The building was heavily fortified,” Landry said. “It took crews a little while to get through the metal gate.”
Crews found flames venting through the roof and called for a second alarm, Landry said.
The blaze was contained to the building and declared under control around 10:25 p.m., Landry said. It wasn’t immediately clear what sparked the fire.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
Crews were expected to remain at the scene well into Tuesday morning, Landry said.
