In this episode of “You Can’t Make This Stuff Up,” Democrats work to weaken school security days after Uvalde. I would really hate to think that they are purposely endangering our children just to push gun control. However, new legislation in California, along with Biden’s recent comments, defy a better explanation.

Democrats Are Working to Weaken School Security

I think by now it would be clear that reporting dangerous or threatening behavior would help curb school violence. It would stand to reason that if someone is threatening to attack a school employee or school, that would be a red flag.

However, it would appear that California does not like the idea of reporting a specific threat to school safety. To be specific, a recent bill, SB 1273, was easily passed just two days after the tragedy in Uvalde. The law repeals a provision in an existing law that requires school employees to report threats.

According to Breitbart News, “The bill repeals a provision of existing law that requires that ‘whenever any employee of a school district or county superintendent of schools is attacked, assaulted, or physically threatened by any pupil, the employee and any person under whose direction or supervision the employee is employed who has knowledge of the incident are required to promptly report the incident to specified law enforcement authorities.’ SB 1273 would make such reports to law enforcement voluntary.”

Democrats are so focused on gun control that they are willing to completely ignore all other means of safeguarding our schools. Fortunately, someone sees the lunacy in this new legislation:

Senator Melissa Melendez (D) said in a recent statement, “I can’t believe that just two days after the heartbreaking events in Texas, the State Senate would pass a measure making our children less safe at school. Requiring teachers to report threats of violence in the classroom may be the only warning law enforcement has to prevent a future violent attack.”

Because “Equity”?

Apparently, this all has to do with equity.

A recent statement from the ACLU says, “Once students make contact with law enforcement, they are less likely to graduate high school and more likely to wind up in jail or prison. These harms fall disproportionately on students from marginalized groups: Black, Indigenous, and Latinx students, as well as students with disabilities, are disproportionately referred to law enforcement, cited, and arrested” (original emphasis).

But it begs the real question, what about the minorities they are placing at risk with this legislation? Are their lives not worth the same “equity” as those who are acting in a criminal manner? Why does it seem that Democrat policies always side with criminals? That is a legitimate question.

Senator Melendez went on to say in her statement that, “Threats of violence deserve the attention of law enforcement. Parents should feel safe sending their kids to school. Eliminating the mandatory reporting requirement, by passing SB 1273, makes our schools more susceptible to a repeat of what happened in Texas – and that is unacceptable.”

School Security and Mental Health Awareness? Nope! Just the Guns

After Uvalde, many have suggested strengthening security measures at schools and taking a look at mental health drivers. These are real and legitimate options.

Something has changed over the years, and it isn’t guns. They have been a part of American culture from the beginning. However, school shootings have not. Why do Democrats refuse to acknowledge that and address legitimate issues?

According to Breitbart News, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said, “In discussing how we might come together to target the problem of mental illness and school safety, we’ll get back at it next week and hope to have results.”

This seems like a very rational approach.

However, the Biden administration does not agree. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre made it clear that these are two things Biden does not agree on. Once again, hardening schools and addressing the real problem are not his focus. Guns are.

Likewise, according to Breitbart News, “She also dismissed proposed legislation on mental health issues, focusing instead on the “pandemic” of gun violence in the United States.”

“What’s the problem here? The problem is with guns and not having legislation to really deal with an issue that is a pandemic here in this country,” she [Jean Pierre] said.

It’s ironic that this was the message on the last day of “Mental Health Awareness Month,” but here we are.

Also, as they keep addressing guns as a “pandemic,” remember how they handled the last pandemic. Now that the CDC is involved, this is beginning to look familiar.

One Trick Pony with No Substance

Even if gun control was the answer (which it clearly is not), we are not talking about an immediate solution. Any kind of legislation would take months to enact. And let’s say they did get their measures passed; we’re talking years before full compliance. What do they have against clear and effective measures that could be enacted almost immediately?

Let’s not forget, that the people saying that hardening security won’t work, are the same people with armed security. The White House is at no risk of an attempted active shooter event.

Nothing about the response from Democrats feels like it has anything to do with protecting children. It is all political theater, intended to help them reach their true goal: gun control.

The Democrat’s laser focus on gun control is not healthy for this country and until they are ready to acknowledge real issues, it will only worsen. We can only pray that it is not at the expense of any more of our children.
