EAST PALO ALTO – Two people have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting last week at Jack Farrell Park in East Palo Alto, police said.

The names of the arrestees were not released but neither is currently considered the homicide suspect.

Both will be booked into San Mateo County jail for outstanding warrants and will remain in custody while police “continue building the cases against them for their involvement in the shooting which endangered the families and children playing” in the park, East Palo Alto Interim Police Chief Jeff Liu said in a news release Tuesday.

“Names and photos are not being released at this time because the investigation is continuing,” Liu said.

Just after 6 p.m. on May 17, two groups of people exchanged 33 shots at the park on the 2500 block of Fordham Street. Ralph Fields, 34, of East Palo Alto, was killed and three others were injured. Fields was the cousin of Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.

“We want to emphasize that this was not a random attack of any kind,” Liu said last week.

Liu said witnesses are still being sought and he encouraged anyone with information to step forward.

Mothers Against Murder, a Los Altos-based nonprofit organization, is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the murder suspect.

Anyone with information related to the case can contact Acting Cmdr. Angel Sanchez at 650-853-3154. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call or text 650-409-6792, or email epa@tipnow.org.
