OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Firefighters in Oakland appear to have knocked down a fire at a “tiny homes” community near the southern end of Lake Merritt Monday morning, according to authorities.
The Oakland Firefighters Twitter account posted the fire at 10:37 a.m. Monday, sharing a Citizen App video that showed the fire producing a large plume of black smoke in the area of 2nd Avenue and East 12th Street.

The Lakeview Village tiny homes community opened in November and houses about 65 people.

Another video shot from above in the area of the fire reported that there was a loud boom. People could be heard shouting at the scene.

Chopper 5 video from around 10:50 a.m. appeared to show the fire had been extinguished with the area that had been burning covered with white foam.

The Oakland Fire Department later confirmed that the fire started just after 10 a.m. with around 20 firefighters responding to the scene. A tweet about the incident said the fire was contained to three of the tiny home dwellings with a fourth home suffering some damage.
Firefighters saved the other 12 units in the community. Fire officials confirmed there were no injuries. Five impacted residents have been referred to the Red Cross for assistance.

AC Transit tweeted that the fire activity has led to a detour around the are for the 1T line to the San Leandro BART station. The bus is not currently stopping at 2nd Avenue in the southbound direction.
