SAN JOSE — A woman fatally stabbed her mother at their home Sunday afternoon, then called police to report the homicide, authorities said.

Police were called at 12:24 p.m. to the 4800 block of Springdale Drive, along San Jose’s border with Campbell, after a 911 caller told dispatchers that she had killed her mother.

The woman also said on the call that she was hearing voices in her head, according to a source familiar with the investigation. Responding officers went to the home where the call originated and were met by the caller; after entering the residence, they found a woman suffering from stabbing injuries.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified by investigators as the caller’s mother, though her identity has not been formally released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

Cheryl Ann Yee, 27, was arrested by officers and later booked into the county Main Jail in San Jose on suspicion of murder. She has an arraignment tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, according to jail records.

The killing marked the third homicide of the year in San Jose, and the third stabbing, according to police and data compiled by this news organization. Nine homicides had been recorded in the city at the same point in 2021.
