SAN JOSE — One person died in a three-alarm house fire in San Jose Sunday evening, according to authorities.

The fire was reported at 8:51 p.m. and 49 firefighters arrived at 8:53 p.m. to the 800 block of Menker Avenue, near San Jose City College, according to San Jose Fire Capt. Cesar Martinez.

There was a large amount of debris obstructing the front yard, back yard and in the house, Martinez said. Firefighters stopped the blaze from spreading to neighboring homes. Fire officials got reports that someone was inside the residence, searched the house and found a deceased person inside.

The victim’s identity wasn’t immediately released. The fire was under control by 10:46 p.m. Arson is investigating the incident and the cause of the fire is also under investigation.
