REDWOOD CITY – A 26-year-old Redwood City man has been charged in connection with a gang-related shooting last July at Red Morton Park, authorities said.

Antonio Rios Sayegrios is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon on charges including attempted murder, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

The victims, described as two brothers, were at the park at about 7:10 p.m. on July 29 when Sayegrios pulled up in his car with another person. Prosecutors said Sayegrios is a “validated Norteño gang member” and the victims were wearing rival Sureño colors.

Following a verbal altercation, Sayegrios allegedly assaulted one of the victims while his accomplice fired a single shot, prosecutors said. The victim was hit once in the shoulder.

The other victim tried to run away. According to prosecutors, Sayegrios and his accomplice drove after the victim and fired at least one shot, hitting the victim in the thigh.

Neither of the injuries was life-threatening, the Redwood City Police Department said.

A months-long investigation ensued and detectives identified Sayegrios as one of the suspects. On Dec. 29, Sayegrios was arrested in San Mateo on a $10 million warrant.

Sayegrios was initially scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 30, but his court appearance was moved to Tuesday because of COVID-19 concerns, prosecutors said. He remains in custody.
