Another year has come and gone. What a year 2021 has been. We swore in a new president, got vaccinated against COVID-19 and binge watched “Squid Game” on Netflix. I know a lot of us are looking forward to celebrating New Year’s Eve and we are too. I mean, how could you not love the countdowns, the ball drops, the party horns and of course, the champagne?
We’re not sure when champagne became synonymous with New Year’s Eve, but we’re on board. Champagne is a sparkling wine produced in the Champagne region of France. One of the most important figures when it comes to champagne is Dom Pérignon, who was a French Benedictine monk. Pérignon lived from 1638 to 1715 and made a huge impact on the production and quality control of wine in Champagne, France. He of course inspired the vintage champagne, Dom Pérignon, which was first introduced in 1921 and first sold in 1936. Other luxury champagne brands include Moët & Chandon, Bollinger, Pol Roger and Veuve.
Another notable figures of champagne include Marie Antoinette, who had the coupe champagne glass modelled after her left breast. Many musicians have written about champagne over the years, as noted in Glen Miller’s “Blue Champagne, Ne-Yo’s “Champagne Life” and Quavo’s “Champagne Rosé.”
