2021 was quite the year for the film industry. Following 2020, many films had been pushed back in order for a wider theatrical release. This meant that when people left their homes, they were traveling to the movies in droves.
We noticed plenty of movies earn acclaim this year. The top grossing domestic film of 2021 was “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” with $224,543,292 earned over all. Rounding out the top ten were “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” “Black Widow,” “F9: The Fast Saga, “Eternals,” “No Time to Die,” “A Quiet Place II,” “Free Guy,” “Jungle Cruise” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”
As these metrics would indicate, adventure and superhero films remained popular among audiences. The highest grossing horror movie of 2021 was “A Quiet Place II,” followed by “Halloween Kills” and “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.” And the highest grossing animated film was “Encanto,” followed by “The Boss Baby: Family Business” and “The Addams Family 2.”
