OAKLAND — A man was hospitalized after an injury shooting Thursday in an East Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.

Shortly after 9 p.m., police responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity near 51st Avenue and International Boulevard in the city’s Melrose neighborhood, and officers learned en route that a man might be suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been struck in the head, and was not conscious but breathing. Other officers also responded, blocking off traffic along International at 51st Avenue.

Firefighters and paramedics also responded, providing care before taking the victim to a hospital. His condition was not immediately available late Thursday.

Investigators did not immediately share any suspect or vehicle description.
