The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged a 35-year-old man Thursday with multiple charges in connection with an assault on a woman and fleeing police in a stolen car earlier this year, authorities said.

In a statement, Berkeley police said investigators learned a woman walking in the 2400 block of Durant Avenue suffered a head injury after someone threw a hard object at her.

After police recovered and reviewed nearby surveillance camera footage, officers were able to identify the man, who was already sought in connection with a separate crime.

On Sunday, an officer saw and attempted to stop the man driving a stolen car near Acton Street and Bancroft Way in the city’s Poet’s Corner neighborhood, but the man did not stop and drove away without regard for others, police said.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the department’s bicycle patrol saw the man walking in the 2400 block of Bancroft Way and arrested him after a brief foot chase.

On Thursday, the man was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, evading a police officer, driving a stolen vehicle and receiving a stolen vehicle.

He was listed Thursday night in custody at Santa Rita Jail and is facing arraignment Friday, according to a county records check.
