A San Jose man is suspected of kidnapping and raping a developmentally disabled woman who had gone missing earlier this year, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

Raymond Dupont Simpson, 43, of San Jose, was arrested this week on suspicion of rape of a developmentally disabled person, kidnapping and false imprisonment, the sheriff’s office said. He is being held at the Santa Clara County Main Jail on $210,000 bail.

Investigators said a woman was found May 24 after having been reported missing sometime earlier by her caretakers, who were in charge of her well-being as part of a conservatorship, said Russell Davis, a sheriff’s spokesman. At the time, the woman told investigators that she had been sexually assaulted near Monterey Road at Senter Road in San Jose.

On Wednesday, Sunnyvale police arrested Simpson near El Camino Real and S. Mary Avenue in connection with the kidnapping and assault, the sheriff’s office said.

Further details on the case, including how long the woman had been missing, were not available Friday.
