A woman who died Thursday when she was shot while riding in the passenger seat of a car heading to the Bay Bridge was identified Friday by authorities.

The California Highway Patrol continued Friday to probe the death of 29-year-old Amani Morris of Union City. She died after bullets pierced the SUV that she rode in with a man and two juveniles.

The Alameda County Coroner’s Office released Morris’ identity Friday afternoon.

The driver and the two juveniles were not hit and were uninjured. Authorities have not said how old the two juveniles are or whether everyone in the car was related.

The shooting marked the second fatal one on a Bay Area freeway in less than two weeks. The funeral for 1-year-old Jasper Wu, of Fremont, was held Friday. Jasper was fatally shot as he sat in an infant car seat as his mother drove on Interstate 880 two weekends ago.

Morris was shot as the SUV went westbound Interstate 80, just east of the West Grand Avenue exit as it approached the Bay Bridge, according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol. The agency was notified around 9:12 a.m.

The CHP has not identified any suspects or a suspect vehicle. They’ve not commented on the incident beyond the statement they released.

The incident caused a massive backup of traffic from the MacArthur Maze that backed up onto I-580 and state Highway 24. The CHP closed four lanes on westbound I-80 for a slightly more than two hours.

The shooting death is the fifth homicide on Oakland freeways investigated by the CHP this year. That is in addition to 122 homicides investigated by Oakland police.

The CHP continued to urge anyone who might have information to contact them. Their investigation tip-line is 707-917-4491.
