Robots. Where do we even begin to discuss robots? Robots have been a fascination of human society for centuries, as we began exploring automation in ancient civilizations. The term robot first came into our vocabulary through Czech artist Josef Čapek and his brother Karel Čapek included it in his 1920 play “R.U.R,” Rossum’s Universal Robots. This helped to ignite the world’s fascination with robots, which kicked into full force due to the rise of television and movies.
Robots helped to popularize the science fiction genre worldwide and some of the first robots on screen were featured in 1927’s “Metropolis,” 1940’s “Mysterious Doctor Satan,” 1953’s “Robot Monster” and 1956’s “Forbidden Planet.” During the 1970s and 1980s, robots soared to new heights, largely because of wildly successful films such as “Star Wars,” “The Terminator” and “Robocop.”
Today, robots continue to delight both the big and small screens, inspiring phenomenons like “Transformers,” “Blade Runner,” “Westworld,” “The Iron Giant,” “Wall-E,” “Pacific Rim” and “Futurama.” But that’s not all robots have inspired.
