OAKLEY (CBS SF) — A 22-year-old Brentwood man was arrested in connection with a shooting at a family birthday party Saturday night in Oakley that left two men dead and two other people injured.

East Contra Costa fire chief Gil Guerrero said crew responded to “reports of gunfire with multiple victims” around 10 p.m. in a neighborhood near Main Street and Malicoat.

Police described a chaotic scene of women screaming and shots fired at the home at 33 Malicoat Ave.

“Our officers were called out here at 10:14 p.m. for some sort of family disturbance,” said Oakley police lt. Paul Beard. “When we got here we found that four people had been struck by gunfire.”

When they arrived, officers immediately detained the suspect and provided first aid to four gunshot victims. Two victims, a 44-year-old Brentwood man and a 28-year-old man with addresses in Vallejo and Brentwood, died at the scene. Their names have not been released. Two others, a 53-year-old Antioch man and a 60-year-old Oakley woman, were hospitalized.

Beard said the two who died were both men and were found in the driveway of the home.

“Working class neighborhood, typically pretty peaceful,” he said.

Investigators from both the Oakley police and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department spent the night gathering evidence.

A currently unidentified 22-year-old Brentwood man has been brought into custody on a number of charges in connection with the shooting, including murder.

Police said that an argument led to the shooting and that the victims and suspect all knew each other.
