CONCORD — Seven people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision on a roadway early Sunday, authorities said.

Shortly after 12:15 a.m., officers responded to reports of the collision on Willow Pass Road at Port Chicago Highway.

Preliminary information by investigators found one vehicle driving on Port Chicago and another heading westbound on Willow Pass before the collision.

Three vehicle occupants suffering from major injuries were flown by medical helicopter to hospitals, while four other injured people were taken by ground ambulance.

The intersection was closed for at least three hours after the collision, which was the third of four incidents handled by the department within twenty-four hours, after a 5 a.m. Saturday collision on Arnold Industrial Way between Peralta Road and Solano Way near the Solano Drive-In that damaged power lines, a 9 p.m. Saturday injury collision on Monument Boulevard at Meadow Lane. Officers also responded to a collision around 1 p.m. Sunday on westbound Clayton Road near Belair Drive.
