ORLANDO, Fla. — Bodycam video captured the moment Orlando police officers suddenly came under fire from three suspects, according to reports.

The unnamed officers were able to quickly identify the apparent ambush threat and respond Tuesday, about 1 p.m. at Jacobs Place and S. Lakeland Avenue.

Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolón said during a Tuesday press conference that three suspects on a sidewalk were approached by the officers. Suddenly, shots rang out and multiple rounds struck the officer’s vehicle as they returned fire, FOX 35 Orlando reported.

“We are very fortunate not to be speaking about an officer-involved shooting where we may have lost one of our officers in this incident,” the chief said. “We’re kind of puzzled as to how this happened. Again, the officers simply pulled up, as they tried to make contact, before they could get out of their car, there are shots that went into that vehicle that they were in.”

Rolon did not specify why the officers intended to make contact with the suspects who proved to be armed combatants.
