How close did The Kid — aka Evan Webeck — come to perfection in Week 4?
Well, if he’d only picked De La Salle and Bellarmine, he’d have gone 15-0.
Guess he out-smarted himself.
“I learned my lesson not to pick against the Bay Area teams against visitors from out of town,” Webeck said.
Still, The Kid stretched his narrow lead in our all-for-fun Bay Area News Group high school football picks competition to two games over yours truly and three games over two-time defending champion Mike Lefkow heading into Week 5.

Lefkow and I went 12-3 in Week 4 — and, for the record, we both picked De La Salle against Cathedral Catholic-San Diego and Bellarmine against Central Catholic-Modesto.
“I’ve been around since Ladouceur was starting out as the coach,” Lefkow said, referring to the architect of the De La Salle program, Bob Ladouceur, the team’s head coach from 1979 to 2012. “I’ve learned that with De La Salle they might have a hiccup on the road now and then. But in a game like last week, it would have been one heck of an upset, in my mind, if Cathedral had beat them.”
