OAKLAND — A man was found dead from traumatic injuries Thursday morning in East Oakland a few blocks away from where a man was found shot in a truck less than three hours earlier, authorities said.

Both investigations are in their initial stages, but police do not believe at this point the two cases are related.

Police were trying to identify both victims. The confirmed gunshot victim was in extremely critical condition.

The man who died from some kind of blunt trauma was found at about 6:48 a.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of 16th Avenue in a median area between the sidewalk and street next to San Antonio Park.

Police said the man was the victim of a homicide but that an autopsy will determine exactly how he died.

Investigators are trying to determine a motive for the killing. No arrests have been made.

The death is the 88th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated 66 homicides in the city.

The shooting victim was found at about 4:20 a.m. inside a pickup truck that had crashed into another vehicle in the 1700 block of 19th Avenue near Commerce Way, which is a mainly residential area.

Police believe he was shot while driving in the area.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined and no arrests have been made.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in the homicide and up to $5,000 in the shooting for information leading to the arrests of the suspects.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-3426 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
