Since its 2017 release the Benchmade Bugout has seen an overwhelming rise in custom options. In answer, Benchmade recently released the 535-3 with carbon fiber scales and CPM S90V blade steel. Along with the updated version, Benchmade has also launched an online tool allowing you to build your own Bugout. However, in January Benchmade announced the coming 535BK-4 Bugout, an all metal, mid-level option that looks completely custom. That time has finally come.
The Benchmade Bugout 535BK-4
As mentioned, Benchmade has launched a tool to build your own custom Bugout—your knife, your way. In the system you can select everything from handle material and blade steel to hardware coloring. However, the only options not available in the Bugout builder are those found on the new 535BK-4.
The 7.46-inch overall length of the Benchmade Bugout 535BK-4 weighs an incredibly light 2.5 ounces. This is due in part to the .41-inch handle thickness and .09-inch-thick blade. However, the 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum handle, with detailed milling, has a hand in that as well. At the butt, the handle also features an oversized lanyard hole, ready to accept lanyards with your favorite EDC bead.
The 3.24-inch drop point blade is constructed of M390 super premium stainless steel. M390 is known for its excellent edge retention. The combination of the high saber grind and the M390 ensures a very keen edge, while the swedge increases penetration. A Cerakote finish on the blade enhances the overall look of the 535BK-4, while providing low drag use and added corrosion resistance.
The Benchmade Bugout 535BK-4 comes configured in right-hand tip-up carry, with the mini deep carry pocket clip. Although, it can be reversed for left-hand tip-up carry if desired. The 535BK-4 also comes with striking red accents, from the thumb stud to the spacers, for eye catching aesthetics.
