ORINDA — A person died after the motorcycle they were riding collided with an SUV and then veered off of Highway 24 on Sunday, authorities said.
Just before 5:45 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers received word of a possible collision in westbound Hwy. 24 lanes just east of Wilder Road involving a sport-utility vehicle and a motorcycle, CHP Officer James Evans said.
When officers arrived, they found a motorcycle and its rider, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity was not immediately available from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division, pending next-of-kin notification.
Officers spoke with witnesses, who told them the vehicle had been seen speeding in traffic before losing control, striking at least one vehicle and leaving the roadway before hitting an embankment.
No Sig-alert closing lanes for any investigation was issued, and the roadway was declared open to traffic by just before 6:20 p.m.
