OAKLAND — A 38-year-old woman has been charged with murder and other crimes in the fatal April 22 shooting of a man police said she used to be in a relationship with, according to authorities and court records.
Tiffany York, of Oakland, was arrested May 25 and is scheduled to enter a plea June 21. She is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.
She is accused of fatally shooting Akobi Winston, 41, who had addresses in Oakland and San Lorenzo, about 11:30 p.m. April 22 in the 3300 block of MacArthur Boulevard in the Upper Dimond District.
Other people were present when the shooting happened, but no one else was injured, authorities said. A parked vehicle belonging to Winston was also hit by gunfire, police said.
According to court documents, investigators were told that “York and Winston were once in a romantic relationship” and the shooting “may have been the result of an unknown domestic dispute.”
The shooting was captured on video surveillance, which led to York being identified as the suspect, the documents say. A pistol was recovered at the scene, but it has not yet been determined if it was the gun used to shoot Winston, authorities said.
Besides the murder count, York is also charged with carrying a loaded firearm on one’s person in a city, carrying a concealed firearm and shooting at an unoccupied vehicle.
