PALO ATLO — Palo Alto police are investigating a vandalism case in which “KKK” was written in two bathrooms at a middle school, according to authorities.
Police responded to a report of vandalism from administrative staff Wednesday at about 4:06 p.m. at a middle school, authorities said. The suspect wrote “KKK” in two restrooms at Fletcher Middle School at 655 Arastradero Road. Staff members already removed the graffiti before the police arrived.
The vandalism occurred on May 10 and May 11 in two separate boys’ restrooms on campus and in both instances, the person wrote “KKK” using a marker or a pen, according to police. It was written on a bathroom stall on May 10 and it was written on the walls and a toilet paper dispenser on May 11. Police said they think the same person committed the crimes. Officers are investigating the incident and are working with school administration.
Police previously investigated a graffiti vandalism in January 2022 at a Palo Alto elementary school, according to authorities. Police said someone wrote a racial epithet directed at Black people on school property. School officials also found a sign that displayed two non-white children that had also been crossed out and removed it. The case is still ongoing and no suspects or arrests have been identified or made. Police don’t have evidence to connect the two cases at the two schools.
