OAKLAND — A body was recovered from a West Oakland construction site, and police were investigating it Wednesday as a suspicious circumstance, authorities said.
Around 12:35 p.m., police officers responded to a report of a body found at the site near Seventh and Maritime streets.
Homicide investigators responded to the scene and began working to confirm a possible identity, pending next-of-kin notification. Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents also responded to the scene.
Police did not immediately disclose any details on the body’s condition or how long it appeared to have been there. They also would not comment on whether the discovery was related to a search of the same general area in November 2016 where authorities looked for a woman missing and believed killed since 2004. A man was eventually convicted of second-degree murder in that case.
Anyone with information may call the department’s homicide section at 510-238-3821 or call a tip line at 510-238-7950.
