Police and members of an Oakland man’s family were asking for the public’s help in finding any information that could help solve his unexplained death earlier this year.
In a statement Tuesday, police said that paramedics found Jose Eduardo Colon Ramos just after 10 p.m. February 7 at 23rd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, in the city’s Hoover-Foster neighborhood.
After determining that he was unconscious and had suffered injuries in an attack, they took Ramos to a hospital for treatment. On February 18, Ramos was pronounced dead without ever regaining consciousness, police said.
Investigators have responded to multiple incidents at an encampment at the intersection in recent years, including the March 2021 fatal beating of a woman, a June 2021 double shooting that claimed a victim’s life several days later, and an August 2021 injury shooting of a man.
Investigators learned that Ramos was moving between several West Oakland homeless shelters, but had yet to piece together events leading up to his injuries and discovery.
Anyone with information about where Ramos may have been seen, who he may have spoken to or his actions may call Oakland police’s homicide division at 510-238-3821 or a tip line at 510-238-7950.
