The Warriors announced both Klay Thompson and James Wiseman are making “good progress” while rehabbing from injuries, but indicated Monday neither will be playing in games any time soon.
Thompson, who has missed the past two seasons with a torn ACL and then a torn Achilles tendon, will participate in controlled drills when training camp begins next week.
There is hope Thompson can join team practices at some point during training camp, but it appears his reported target date of Christmas Day for his first game since 2019 has not changed.
Meanwhile, Wiseman’s recovery from April 15 surgery to repair damage to his right meniscus won’t allow him to play in any of Golden State’s six preseason games. The team said the 20-year-old will only participate in individual shooting and other on-court activities during training camp.
The Warriors said Wiseman’s timetable hasn’t changed – he’s expected to start full jumping on Oct. 15, six months after his surgery. But, since the Warriors begin the regular season on Oct. 19 at home against the Lakers, Wiseman is sure to miss some time at the start of the season.
Wiseman, Golden State’s No. 2 overall pick in the NBA draft last year, appeared in just 39 games and averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
