Some trails in San Francisco’s Presidio will be closed starting next week to all dogs, whether on or off leashes, because of coyote pupping season, Presidio Trust officials said.
The closures, starting April 5, affect about 3 miles of trails in the central part of the Presidio. They are marked in red on the map above. The golf course will also be closed to dogs.
The closures will last through early September, when pupping season ends.
Presidio Trust officials said coyotes are especially protective of their pups and can be aggressive toward dogs. The seasonal closures for dogs are being implemented as a precaution.
Presidio naturalists ask that coyote sightings be logged — preferably with a photo — to the iNaturalist app or website. Unusual or concerning coyote behavior can be reported to the Presidio Trust’s coyote hotline at (415) 561-4148 or by email at coyote@presidiotrust.gov.
