OAKLAND — A man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in an East Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
Shortly after 3:55 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting near 57th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Investigators did not immediately share any suspect or vehicle description, or preliminary information about what preceded the shooting. The man’s identity was being withheld pending confirmation and notificaiton of his next of kin.
The killing is the 94rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year, and the sixth since Sept. 9. Last year at this time police had investigated 69 homicides in the city. There were 109 total homicides in the city last year.
